This past Wednesday, my grandfather Rabbi Mordechai Tzvi Greenwald of blessed memory returned his soul to his maker.
It’s extremely difficult for me to put in writing who my grandfather was. He wore many different hats. Whether it was the hat of a Israeli soldier in 1948 helping to protect the people and the land of Israel, the hat of an orator giving speeches to thousands of people, the hat of a teacher teaching young children, or the hat of a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather; the common denominator between all of them was that it was all for the service of G-d.
My grandfather lived a life infused with belief and trust in G-d, which translated into action. He was a spiritual giant with utmost humility and sensitivity with the ability to connect spirituality and physicality in a way that it would all be used to serve G-d.
He had a unique gift that whenever someone spoke with him, no matter who they were, they got the feeling that they were the most important person in the world.
His strong faith and trust in G-d enabled him to live a life without fear. He knew that G-d was running everything. I believe that it was because of his faith that he lived a life filled with such joy infusing every aspect of his life, and the life of people around him with excitement and
goodness.
goodness.
My heart is in pain from this great loss, however I know what my grandfather wants of me, he wants me to live life with a dedication to serving G-d with joy!
May his memory be a blessing!
Have a joyous Shabbos!
