This past Wednesday, my grandfather Rabbi Mordechai Tzvi Greenwald of blessed memory returned his soul to his maker. It’s extremely difficult for me to put in writing who my grandfather was. He wore many different hats. Whether it was the hat of a Israeli soldier in 1948 helping to protect the people and the land of Israel, the hat of an orator giving speeches to thousands of people, the hat of a teacher teaching young children, or the hat of a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather; the common denominator between all of them was that it was all for the service of G-d. My grandfather lived a life infused with belief and trust in G-d, which translated into action. He was a spiritual giant with utmost humility and sensitivity with the ability to connect spirituality and physicality in a way that it would all be used to serve G-d.
